Osisko Gold Group has awarded JDS Energy & Mining the continuing underground mine-development and related-works contract at its Cariboo Gold Project, formalising the next stage of on-site execution at the company’s permitted, wholly owned underground development in central British Columbia. The contract became effective October 5 and was awarded through Osisko subsidiary Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd. to JDS, the project’s current contractor. 1

The award is a practical step beyond a construction decision: it identifies the contractor responsible for continuing underground development work as Cariboo advances. Osisko did not disclose the contract’s value, duration, scope quantities or revised capital requirements in the announcement. That leaves the update as an execution milestone rather than evidence of a changed project budget or a new financing commitment.

For Cariboo, continuity may matter as much as the selection itself. Retaining the current contractor avoids an apparent handover between development teams while the company pushes into additional underground areas. The release characterises the asset as under construction, while the contract covers both mine development and related works, suggesting that the appointment is tied to sustaining progress rather than a stand-alone exploration programme. 1

The announcement also paired the contract award with results from ongoing definition infill drilling in the Lowhee Zone. Osisko reported 3,933 metres of drilling in 36 holes from the 1290-metre level, using target spacing of 10 to 15 metres. Among the highlighted results were 7.28 grams per tonne of gold over 16.15 metres at about 105 metres vertical depth, including 173.66 g/t over 0.60 metres, and 7.13 g/t over 11.60 metres at about 61 metres vertical depth. 1

Those results do not constitute new production or a revised reserve statement. They do, however, sit alongside the development contract in illustrating the work still being undertaken underground as construction proceeds. Osisko said intercepts outside modelled reserve stopes could point to resource-conversion potential and upside mineralisation, but framed that as an indication rather than a booked increase in reserves or resources. 1

The distinction is important for assessing the significance of the update. A continuing contractor award can reduce uncertainty around who will perform the work, but it does not by itself demonstrate construction progress against schedule, final cost certainty, mining rates or eventual recoveries. Likewise, high-grade intervals in infill drilling can support confidence in a zone without establishing project-wide grade, mine life or future output.

The company also granted 72,700 stock options and 553,700 restricted share units to newly hired senior officers and non-executive employees under its omnibus incentive plan. The options carry an exercise price of C$4.00 per share, based on the October 2 closing price on the TSX Venture Exchange. Osisko said the awards were intended to align recipients with shareholders and support its long-term growth strategy. 1

Cariboo’s progress will unfold against a gold market still sensitive to rates, inflation expectations and the US dollar. A September industry report described higher-rate expectations and a firmer dollar as pressures on non-yielding gold and silver, even as fiscal and geopolitical concerns had supported bullion earlier in the period. 2 For Osisko, the immediate company-specific marker is narrower: underground development at Cariboo now has a continuing contractor in place, while the project’s eventual performance will depend on delivery rather than the contract announcement alone.
