Simple Energy begins commercial production of rare-earth-free EV motors in Hosur, using proprietary materials, algorithms to match torque and efficiency.
Simple Energy has begun commercial manufacture of India’s first rare-earth-free electric vehicle motors at its Hosur, Tamil Nadu facility.
The motors replace heavy rare-earth magnets with proprietary in-house compounds and integrate control algorithms for dynamic heat and torque management. That combination is designed to sustain torque, efficiency and thermal stability comparable to conventional rare-earth magnet motors.
The move reduces dependence on imported critical minerals and mitigates supply-chain risk amplified by recent export restrictions from leading rare-earth suppliers. Commercialisation indicates the company has moved prototype R&D into industrial production.
From a systems perspective, the solution pairs materials engineering with software-driven motor control to recoup losses typically incurred when swapping magnet chemistry. Early indications point to competitive efficiency and usable torque density for two-wheeler applications.
Positioned ahead of an expected IPO, the Hosur plant is central to scaling output and supporting localisation goals. The development strengthens supply-chain resilience for India’s EV sector while demonstrating how materials innovation plus embedded control can substitute for scarce inputs without sacrificing performance.
