The Dutch government has moved to constrain Chinese‑owned chipmaker Nexperia, citing risks that crucial semiconductor technology could be transferred to its parent company, Wingtech. Using rarely invoked powers under the "Availability of Goods Act", The Hague said it can now block or reverse management decisions deemed harmful, while stopping short of taking ownership; regular production will continue.\nA Dutch court suspended Wingtech CEO Zhang Xuezheng from Nexperia boards, appointed Dutch businessman Guido Dierick with a deciding vote, and transferred nearly all Nexperia shares to a Dutch lawyer for management custody. The rulings contributed to a roughly 10% drop in Wingtech shares in Shanghai.\nOfficials warned the moves were needed to protect vital know‑how, including common components such as diodes and transistors and more advanced wide‑bandgap semiconductors used in EVs, chargers and AI data centres. The Netherlands said the decision was made independently and denied U.S. involvement, even as Washington has expanded export controls and previously blacklisted Wingtech.\nWingtech called the intervention geopolitically driven and said it is seeking legal and government support; Nexperia maintains it complies with applicable laws and says operations continue.
