Emerald Keeps A$491 Million on Balance Sheet to Fund Dingo Range and Memot

Emerald Resources ended FY26 with a record A$259.6 million profit and A$491.1 million of cash, bullion and listed investments, but no dividend. For a debt-free, unhedged producer that generated A$401 million of pre-tax operating cash flow, that omission is the clearest signal in the result: management is prioritising the build-out of a multi-mine portfolio over near-term cash returns.14

The existing engine remains the Okvau mine in Cambodia. It produced 100,405 ounces in FY26 at an all-in sustaining cost of US$972 an ounce. Production was below the 105,000-120,000 ounce guidance range carried through much of the year, after heavy rainfall disrupted access to higher-grade ore earlier in the period, but costs stayed close to the operation’s long-run target and the second half recovered strongly.489

Higher gold prices did most of the financial lifting. Gold sales revenue rose 40% to A$601.8 million and EBITDA increased 93% to A$392.1 million. Net profit nearly tripled from A$87.6 million a year earlier. Emerald also remained debt-free and unhedged, leaving the company with unusually direct exposure to the cash generated by Okvau.45

The harder stock question is what happens to that cash next. Emerald’s strategy is to become a 300,000-400,000 ounce-a-year producer, which requires two projects now moving from exploration into development: Dingo Range in Western Australia and Memot in Cambodia.2

Dingo Range is the nearer-term capital commitment. Emerald has awarded MACA Mining a mining-services package worth about A$562.5 million over 74 months, with mobilisation expected late in 2026. The project is fully permitted for development, while feasibility work and reserve conversion are intended to turn a 1.41 million-ounce mineral resource into an executable mine plan.3710

The resource is meaningful but still needs to become reserve-backed cash flow. Dingo Range contains 40.9 million tonnes at 1.1 grams per tonne for about 1.41 million ounces at a 0.45 g/t cut-off, including a higher-grade subset of 24.2 million tonnes at 1.4 g/t for 1.12 million ounces at a 0.7 g/t cut-off. Drilling this year has continued to return higher-grade intersections at Boundary, Neptune and Freeman’s Find, while the Stables prospect adds another potential source of mine-life upside.310

Memot gives Emerald a second growth option in Cambodia, where the company already has operating infrastructure and government relationships through Okvau. Its January resource update lifted Memot to 45.0 million tonnes at 1.2 g/t for 1.70 million ounces, including 21.6 million tonnes at 1.8 g/t for 1.24 million ounces in the higher-grade component. The project has an Industrial Mining Licence and Mineral Investment Agreement, with a maiden reserve and final development studies still to come.236

That makes the A$491.1 million liquidity position more strategic than cosmetic. Emerald can fund detailed engineering, early works, contractor mobilisation and exploration without immediately relying on debt or equity markets. The decision not to declare a dividend preserves that flexibility at a point when two development projects are competing for capital.14

There is an important counterweight to the growth narrative. Okvau’s FY26 production miss shows that a low-cost mine can still be vulnerable to weather and mine sequencing. Scaling from roughly 100,000 ounces to more than 300,000 ounces also means executing two new mines across two jurisdictions while maintaining the operating discipline that made Okvau valuable in the first place.489

The funding profile therefore looks stronger than the execution profile. Dingo Range’s mining contract already commits Emerald to a long-duration operating relationship, but the market still needs final reserve economics, project capital requirements and a clear construction schedule. Memot is permitted, but it likewise needs a reserve and development decision before its 1.7 million-ounce resource can be valued as a producing asset.67

Emerald’s FY27 Okvau guidance of 100,000-115,000 ounces suggests the existing mine alone will not deliver the company’s growth target. The re-rating case instead depends on converting Dingo Range and Memot into cash-generating operations while keeping Okvau around its low-cost production base.4

The next catalysts are therefore practical rather than promotional: maiden ore reserves and final development economics for Dingo Range and Memot, mobilisation at Dingo Range, and evidence that Okvau can hold production within FY27 guidance without another weather-driven setback. If those milestones arrive on schedule, Emerald’s retained cash will look like growth capital. If they slip, investors may start asking why a debt-free producer with record profits is still keeping all of the cash.
